Vitamin D makes us happy, healthy, vibrant and thriving. Spending time outdoors in the fresh air and getting vitamin D is so important for our health and wellbeing, but it may not always be easy.

Supplements during times of need can be useful but may not be the best solution for an ongoing basis. Vitamin D when taken in supplement form greatly reduces magnesium stores which is essential for optimal health. So it is important to make sure you are getting adequate magnesium in your diet as well as supplementing since magnesium is highly deficient in our foods.

Vitamin D is a powerful hormone and should not be taken without caution. Try as much as possible to get your vitamin D from natural light for at least 15 min. a day without sunblock and sometimes more depending on the shade of your skin. If you have darker skin your body produces more melanin which requires you to spend more time in the sun to get adequate amounts of vitamin D.

You can also get Vitamin D through your diet in foods like salmon, sardines, cod liver oil, oysters, pastured egg yolks, and mushrooms.

Enjoy the beautiful gift of sunshine and spread your sunshine by smiling.
