Is Bottled Water Healthy?

When seeking to live a healthy lifestyle, it is especially important to focus on our drinking water. It is vital for optimum health. Water makes up 65% of our body, making it incredibly important to hydrate with the cleanest sources.

Bottled water has become quite convenient in our busy lives; however, it is not all created equal. Sadly there are so many grey areas when it comes to bottled water. Have you ever looked at the water report for your favorite brand? It can be so easy to trust popular companies and assume they have our best interests in mind.

My mission is to inspire you to take a look at essential health topics and for you to be your own health advocate.

For years, I have been trying to wake people up about their drinking water. Water industry regulations need to be updated. The standards and laws that govern bottled water are over 50 years old. Think about what we thought was safe then, and look at what we know now. Better standards and testing need to be established to protect our health. As consumers, it is really hard for us to know exactly what may be lurking in bottled water and its implications on our health.

Its also important to note that most bottled water comes in plastic that can leech health, harming microplastics into our water. Microplastics can cause reproductive problems, weakened immune systems, and more even in small amounts.

I am not into fear-mongering. That has never been my style. I like to present useful information that gives you a different perspective to make informed decisions regarding your health. Knowledge is power. I believe the more you know, the better you can protect yourself and your family so you can live a healthy and happy life.

When we know better, we can do better. So how can we protect ourselves with this knowledge going forward?

TIPS TO GET STARTED

Purchase a high-quality water filter.

Not all water filters are created equally. Many of them do nothing more than remove a few toxins.

I like this brand because their filters remove the most important toxins from their water and comply with all regulatory standards. I love how easily it can be hooked up to the water faucet. It's a great option because it will encourage you to wash your veggies in this water as well as for cooking and drinking.

We often purchase organic vegetables but rinse them with tap water, which has a lot of toxins. It is very important to use filtered water for all cooking to ensure our meals are healthy.

I also love this brand because they offer a shower filter. Yes, that is also important. I know you might be thinking that it seems a bit much, and I completely understand. None of this is common knowledge, but it should be. Schools should seriously teach us how to protect our health so we can thrive.

The water in our showers is tap water, and it contains a lot of toxins. Our shower water heats up, making it easier for the toxins to penetrate our bodies via the skin. The skin is the body's largest organ and is often an overlooked area of toxin intake.

Fill up a large glass jug with filtered water

I usually fill up a 1-gallon glass jug. Store it in your car, desk, locker, etc. Refill your smaller water jug you use throughout the day with this clean water. This way, you always have clean water on hand.

If you enjoy sparkling water, make your own at home. Use your filtered water and a sparkling water machine. It's easy, healthy, cost-effective, and better for the environment. I have a cost-effective sparkling water machine at home.

Sparkling water is also not regulated, just saying! It's wonderful because you can get creative and add fresh fruit for delicious fizzy drinks.

Additional Water Tips

  • When you order a beverage at a restaurant, it is usually tap water or the most basic filtered water. Many restaurants use a filter for their water or ice cube machine, but the filter does not filter out many toxins. The best way to limit your exposure is to choose bottled water in glass while being artisanal or natural spring water.

  • To avoid the toxins found in tap while dining at a restaurant skip the ice cubes and just order the artisanal or natural spring water.

  • Wash your produce in filtered water. It is important to rinse our produce before consuming it to prevent the intake of harmful bacteria. It is also important to use filtered water otherwise, we are essentially adding more toxins to our food.

I really hope this inspires you to take a deeper look at your daily practices and to make note of any areas that need a little extra love and attention.

We all start on our health journeys at different times in life, and the most important thing is that you show up for yourself. You are important and deserve to look and feel your best. Remember that small changes add up to big success, and every little bit counts.

I wish you so much success on your health journey.
