HOW SUGAR AFFECTS YOUR SKIN

Have you ever wondered why no matter what lotion, potion, or supplement you take you just can’t seem to get rid of those signs of aging? Well sugar could be the culprit. AGES ( advanced glycation end products) are proteins bound to sugar moieties such as glucose, fructose, etc., resulting in damaged cross-linked proteins and inflammation. Eating an excess of sugar causes wrinkles and unwanted signs of aging. Sugar attacks healthy and strong collagen by degrading it, resulting in dull skin and increased wrinkles. The more sugar you eat the more AGES are produced, which damage the elastin and collagen that keep your skin looking youthful. When precious collagen and elastin are damaged it becomes dry & brittle and leads to sagging and wrinkles. So how can we prevent this from happening? The key is to reduce sugar intake. That means white sugars, brown sugars, agave, maple syrup, honey, and sugar substitutes. Also, decreasing foods that cause inflammation in the body, such as processed foods, fried foods, and foods full of preservatives. Another important factor to keep in mind is that foods such as pastas, grains, bread, etc turn into sugar in our bodies once metabolized, so keeping those in moderation will have a positive effect on our health and production of collagen. As well as excess fruit consumption.

I firmly believe in the power of whole foods for optimal health and beauty. I am passionate about sharing these tips to help you achieve health and beauty holistically. Xo
