#1 Moisturize, Exfoliate, and Protect

During the holiday season it's easy to get wrapped up in the festivities and forget to take care our our skin health. With the skin being the body's largest organ it is essential to consistently practice our beauty routine. When the skin is hydrated and moisturized it does a better job at protecting us from environmental pollutants and bacteria. It also encourages radiant and glowing skin. When we look good, we feel good.

Try these clean beauty skin essentials

This everyday moisturizer hydrates while creating a barrier to protect against environmental pollutants and cold winter winds. The formula is rich in antioxidants, Shea butter, and seaweed for healthy and glowing skin. I love how well it moisturizes the skin while not feeling heavy. It also makes a great base for makeup.

This overnight resurfacing serum reinforces your skin moisture barrier and you will wake up glowing! It's made with fruit acids, AHA's, and phytic acid to exfoliate the skin and promote skin renewal to reveal healthier and brighter skin. This mask does a great job at evening out the skin tone and sloughing off dead skin cells to keep your skin moisturized and glowing.

This gentle cleanser will not strip your skin of moisture. During the Fall and Winter months the last thing you want to do is use a cleanser that strips the skin of its moisture barrier which will leave the skin vulnerable to bacteria and dryness. This cleanser is a gentle formula that gently removes impurities while protecting and soothing the skin.

Honey An absolute game changer for any beauty routine. Honey is a natural humectant that helps draw moisture into the skin, gently exfoliates, and soothes. I am all about multi tasking and love to apply honey on my face while in the shower for a quick morning moisture face mask. Simply apply to your face and allow the honey to work it's magic while you shower. Rinse with warm water and voila, healthy and glowing skin!

Another simple and effective way to include honey into your beauty routine is to make a DIY face mask like this one I demonstrated on television.

Honey is one of those effective natural beauty ingredients you can apply daily if you choose to do so. The best options are either manuka honey or raw organic honey. These types are naturally more active compared to pasteurized honey.

#2 Start the Day with A Boost of Nutrition

Starting your morning with a healthy serving of vegetables will ensure you get adequate nutrition for the day. It will also help you look and feel your best. Regardless if you partake in holiday treats later in the day you can rest assured that your healthy breakfast created the foundation for wellness. When we consume nutritionally dense foods we are more likely to feel balanced throughout the day.

Adding steamed vegetables to any breakfast is a quick and easy way to get a boost of nutrition that will help you glow from the inside out. The best vegetables are the ones you enjoy because you are more likely to consume them regularly.

My favorite way to consume vegetables in the morning is by making a beauty breakfast bowl with an assortment of vegetables, protein, and healthy fats.

I always prepare my healthy meals in my favorite non toxic cookware to avoid harmful chemicals leaching into my food.

Vegetable ideas: zucchini, broccoli, green peas, green beans, shiitake mushrooms, collard greens, kale, squash, chard, and more!

1.) Steam an assortment of organic vegetables in your non toxic cookware. Try a mix of fresh and frozen vegetables and lightly steam them.

Pro tip: Try frozen vegetables. Many vegetables can be found in the freezer aisle. Studies show that frozen vegetables oftentimes contain more nutrition because they are picked at their peak. Frozen vegetables are also cost effective and may reduce waste.

2.) Prepare one chicken sausage and 1-2 pasture raised eggs.

Vegetarians or vegans try lentils, buckwheat groats, and black beans.

3.) Add a variety of spices to increase the nutrient density of the meal.

Spices: cumin, turmeric, garlic powder, onion powder, and sea salt.

4.) Add all ingredients to a bowl

5.) Top with half an avocado

Enjoy!

#3 Stay Hydrated While Consuming Alcohol

The holiday season is all about being social and spending time celebrating with those we love. Generally people like to enjoy a few cocktails which can lead to dehydration. It is important to remember to stay hydrated to protect your skin and to avoid feeling sluggish the next day.

Try these tips

  • Try coconut water. Not only is this tasty and hydrating beverage loaded with electrolytes to help you look and feel good, it does a much better job at hydrating the body than plain water. Simply bring a few bottles of coconut water to a party so everyone stays hydrated (sharing is caring) and glowing all evening long. You can also make cocktails with coconut water, yum!

  • For every drink you consume make sure to have a glass of water. Plain water is not the best at hydrating the body so adding a pinch of sea salt or a squeeze of lime will help you absorb the water more easily.

  • Try magnesium bicarbonate, a natural electrolyte drink packed with skin loving ingredients. Since excess alcohol consumption can deplete the vitamins and minerals needed to look and feel our best it may be a good idea to try a supplement.

Magnesium bicarbonate does an excellent job at hydrating the body, minimizing stress, and encouraging healthy skin, hair, and nails.

This is the one supplement I take daily. It contains magnesium, silica, calcium, sodium, and potassium. Minerals are essential after a night of drinking (and everyday wellness) to help the body regain balance.

  • Keep it simple. Festive cocktails can be fun but they generally contain a lot of sugar which can take a toll on your skin and health. Instead, mixers such as sparkling water, lime, and fresh juice are great options.

  • Try a mocktail. Alcohol can be dehydrating and is not supportive of wellness or beauty. You can still have fun and enjoy holiday festivities while not drinking. My favorite mocktail is grapefruit juice and sparkling water in a gorgeous martini glass.

#4 Turn Down The Temperature in the Shower

Most of us love a relaxing hot shower but it can be quite harsh on our skin, especially during the cooler months. I know you may not want to hear this but it is never advisable to use hot water on your face. Doing so can strip the skin of it's moisture barrier, cause excess dryness, redness, damage, and premature aging. Cleansing your face with warm water is always the best option for healthy and glowing skin all year long.

If you love your hot showers (like me) don't worry you can simply turn the temperature down whenever you cleanse your face. Then turn it back to your normal temperature. It's called balance!

#5 Avoid Rubbing Skin, Instead Pat Dry

It's easy to grab a towel and rub our skin quickly to get dry as fast as possible. However, doing so can aggravate the skin and cause irritation, damage, and premature aging. Instead, try patting your face gently with a towel. This simple act will minimize friction and damage.

#6 Get your Beauty Sleep

The quality of our sleep is just as important as the number of number of hours we spend in bed so learning helpful techniques can make a significant impact on our overall wellness and beauty.

#7 Try a Humidifier

The overuse of heaters can take a toll on our skin because they pull moisture from the air. Prolonged exposure to dry air can cause the skin to look dull, irritated, and red. A simple hack is to purchase a humidifier to add moisture to the air. You skin and hair will thank you. You can also boil a pot of hot water with a few herbs such as rosemary or cinnamon for a DIY humidifier that makes the whole house smell delicious.

#8 Start the Day with Warm Lime Water with Salt

Hydrated skin is beautiful skin. Start your morning off right by creating a natural electrolyte drink to replenish your body and nourish your beauty from the inside out. All you need is warm water, one lime, and a pinch of sea salt.

I start every morning by consuming warm lime water with salt (you can also try lemon) to hydrate my body after a night of beauty rest. This simple yet effective morning drink hydrates and supports a healthy digestive tract.

Sea salt or pink Himalayan salt can contain upwards of eighty four trace minerals that can nourish beauty and help the body produce energy. The human body needs minerals and consuming them first thing in the morning can significantly increase your wellness, mood, and hydrate your skin from the inside out.

Benefits of Warm Lime Salt Water

  • Detoxification

  • Hydration

  • Energy

  • Glowing Skin

  • Better Cognition

  • Better Digestion

  • Healthy Mood

What you need

32-64 oz warm water

Juice of one lime

Pinch of sea salt

Directions

Add warm water to glass

Squeeze lemon juice

Add salt

Consume on a empty stomach

Enjoy!

#9 Practice Self Care Daily

During the holiday season its easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of shopping, cooking, decorating, and spending more time with family and friends. All of this can leave us vulnerable to burnout and fatigue. Learning how to implement a few self care strategies can minimize stress.

Repeat after me, "Self care is never selfish."

Taking the time to focus on yourself is an essential aspect of health and will promote a deeper sense of well being.

Self Care Tips

1.) Try meditation. A healthy practice that promotes a sense of well being throughout the day. The simple act of breathing and quieting the mind can have a profound influence on how we feel each day. Your skin will glow from the oxygen and circulation boost!

I will admit that mediation was difficult for me at first. I tried many times over the years to make it a consistent habit and with persistence I was able to make it a daily routine. Meditation has been life changing for me. It helps me feel centered, calm, and happy throughout the day. I start each morning with my mediation practice. I notice that my day is much more peaceful, focused and I operate from my heart.

2.) Practice Gratitude

When we are grateful we can experience more joy, happiness, and beauty.

We all have a reason to be grateful. The food in our refrigerator, the roof over our head, a funny tv show or movie, that one best friend who just gets it or the simple act of being alive. These are all reasons to be grateful. Focusing on gratitude is an excellent way to infuse your life with more joy and good health. The added bonus is that your skin will glow!

A woman who practices gratitude exudes a gorgeous glow that no skincare or cosmetic could ever compete with. Try starting your day by saying five things you are grateful for. Absolutely life changing!

3.) Practice your skincare routine daily. Skincare is self care and can help you look and feel radiant even during busy times. Take a few moments each day and pamper your skin with love and care.

4.) Consume healthy food everyday. Nutrient rich food is the most effective method for feeling your best. The vitamins and minerals will support your brain, gut health, and a healthy glow from the inside out.

#10 Be Kind, Beauty comes from within

Kindness never goes out of style and is absolutely beautiful. Some of the most gorgeous people are those that operate from a place of love and kindness. The love in their hearts radiate like a golden sunbeam that no beauty product could ever create. The lines may form on our face as age but our hearts can remain youthful and bright if we practice kindness daily.

You never know what someone else may be going through and being kind, compassionate, and loving can make a significant difference in one's life. It also helps us to be more compassionate with ourselves. May we all be kind and loving to ourselves and others each and every day.
