Exfoliate your Beautiful Face

Spring is all about extra glowy skin. After exposure to cold winds, rain, and heaters during the winter, our skin can appear dry and dull. It’s time to slough off those dead skin cells and let your natural beauty shine through.
Regular exfoliation helps skincare products absorb more efficiently, provides a smoother makeup application, and encourages a radiant appearance. Use a gentle exfoliant once or twice a week, depending on your skin type.
Types of Exfoliation
Chemical Exfoliation
A skincare product with ingredients that aid in cell turnover and break down the bonds of dead skin cells without manually scrubbing the skin. Generally, chemical exfoliants tend to be more gentle and best suited for sensitive skin. Common ingredients include Alpha and Beta hydroxy acids, glycolic acid, lactic acid, and fruit enzymes.
Physical Exfoliation
Requires a scrubbing action with products such as facial scrubs, washcloths, muslin cloth, brushes, etc. With these types of exfoliants, it is best to be gentle and avoid aggressively scrubbing the skin, which can cause irritation and break down collagen. Avoid physical exfoliants with harsh ingredients such as sugar and ground-up kernels and shells, as they can cause micro-tears in the skin. Over exfoliating can damage the skin barrier and lead to irritation and acne. Get It Girl Season 10, Episode 29 - Jessica Rose
Watch my recent TV appearance on LATV Network to learn about my journey to holistic beauty and why I am so passionate about teaching people how to switch to a non toxic beauty routine. I also debunk a couple of new beauty trends.
Swap Heavy Skincare Products for Lighter Formulas

Heavy creams during the winter are excellent; however, they can make our skin appear oily and greasy in the Spring. As the weather gets warmer, you will want to switch to lighter formulas so your skin stays moisturized without being greasy, and your makeup applies smoothly. Humectants such as hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, and glycerin are excellent ingredients in skincare that hydrate without being greasy.
Clean Beauty Lightweight Moisturizers
OSEA Atmosphere Protection Cream: A lightweight moisturizer that nourishes skin, improves elasticity and protects from environmental pollutants
OSEA Hyaluronic Sea Serum: A fast-absorbing concentrated formula that provides the skin with an instant hydration boost. Best applied before a moisturizer for extra hydration and glowing skin.
Herbivore Botanicals Pink cloud soft Moisture Cream:
A luxurious hydrating moisturizer perfect for plumping and skin renewal. The formula is made with hydrating ingredients such as sodium hyaluronate and aloe vera.
Herbivore Bakuchiol (Retinol Alternative): A plant based alternative to retinol. Did you know that Retinol can make you more susceptible to the sun and contribute to vitamin A toxicity? Why risk your health? Especially in the Spring when we are spending more time in the sunshine. This effective, lightweight formula provides the skin with the same benefits as retinol while being gentle and healthy. Even those with the most sensitive skin can use bakuchiol.
Apply Sunscreen on the Face Properly

It is time to soak up the sunshine! Wearing sunscreen on the face helps prevent sun damage, especially in the Spring when we spend more time outdoors. Always apply your sunscreen after your skincare products and never underneath. Applying SPF before skincare can change the chemical makeup and alter its effectiveness.
It is also advisable not to rely on skincare or cosmetics that contain SPF as your only source of sun protection, as you most likely will not apply enough of the product to get enough protection. Make sure to apply a liberal amount on all face and neck areas.
Clean Beauty SPF
Kari Gran Essential SPF 30: (My favorite) I love this formula because it is lightweight, has simple and natural ingredients, looks great under makeup, and is non toxic. This mineral sunscreen with non-nano zinc oxide protects the skin from UVA and UVB rays. Made with organic botanicals that nourish and protect the skin.
Hynt Beauty Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 25: A mineral sunscreen, non-nano-based zinc oxide. Protects and primes the skin for a flawless application. Look great under makeup or by itself.
Switch up your Makeup for Lighter Colors

Spring is all about fresh, dewy skin with a radiant finish. It is time to swap out your sultry winter lipsticks and eye shadows for lighter makeup. Applying lighter makeup shades can instantly boost your mood and brighten your look.
Face: Try an illuminating primer before your foundation to give your skin an instant glow and help your makeup last longer.
Eyes: The eyes are the window to the soul. Why not emphasize them with beautiful Spring eyeshadow colors? Shades such as gold, yellow, bronze, and pastel shades are a great way to brighten your look instantly.
Clean beauty eye shadows: Don't risk harming your eye health with toxic ingredients. Swap your eye shadow for non toxic options. This brand has a really pretty Spring eye shadow palette.
Clean beauty mascara primer: Get long and full lashes with this fantastic lash primer. It helps lashes hold a curl and build length and volume for beautiful flirty lashes.
Clean beauty mascara: Take your lashes to the limit with this vegan mascara. It instantly lengthens and builds volume. When paired with the lash primer, you get the most beautiful lashes naturally.
Clean beauty lip colors: Shades like pink, peach, and coral are a great way to brighten the face and add a soft feminine touch. Keeping your lips moisturized is essential, so you will want to use hydrating lip colors that last. These clean beauty lip colors work really well and make your lips soft and kissable. They have the prettiest shades. This one is my favorite.
Clean your Makeup Brushes Weekly

Spring cleaning should also include your makeup brushes. Keep your skin fresh and healthy by cleaning your makeup brushes regularly. Dirty makeup brushes accumulate bacteria and dead skin cells, which can clog pores leading to acne and breakouts. The last thing you want to do is spread bacteria all over the face.
Washing your makeup brushes weekly can make a significant difference in the health and beauty of your skin. If you have current breakouts, clean your makeup brushes more often than once a week until your skin balances out.
I like to use Dr. Bronners Castille soap mixed with warm water. Simple, natural, and effective. I never skip my weekly makeup brush washing. It keeps the pimples away.
Switch up your Hair Care Routine

Most of us get dry and dull hair during winter, so we use heavier products to moisturize it. Once Spring rolls around, our hair tends to have a lot of buildup from excess products and needs a detox. As a licensed cosmetologist, I am passionate about teaching people how to use high-performance natural beauty products and techniques without sacrificing quality.
Shop my favorite clean beauty hair products
First: Give your hair a thorough cleanse to freshen and brighten it. A clarifying shampoo like this one helps remove excess buildup, allowing moisture to penetrate the hair and making it softer, shinier, and more manageable. I love to use a clean beauty volumizing shampoo from my favorite non toxic haircare brand. It does a fantastic job of cleansing the hair without drying it out. Plus, it gives you a lot of volume. You can start practicing your hair flips now.

Second: Follow up with a moisturizing clean beauty conditioner like this one. You want to use a product that has effective ingredients that can penetrate your hair instead of sitting on top and weighing it down. This formula is made with nourishing ingredients that moisturize the hair well. A little goes a long way.

Third: Apply a clean beauty leave in hair product while your hair is still damp. You always want to apply a product that can help seal and lock in moisture to prevent damage.
Fourth: If your hair needs extra moisture, try a clean beauty hair mask. This mask brings life back to your hair without weighing it down. Nourishing ingredients like Rahua oil and She butter help to smooth hair and make it shiny. Use it two to three times monthly for the best results.

Eat Detoxifying Beauty Foods

The body naturally focuses on detoxification during the Spring. As we transition into a new season, the body gravitates towards lighter and brighter foods. If you didn't know already, healthy skin, hair, and nails start from the inside out. One of the best ways to look your best at every age is to focus on getting proper nutrition. No cosmetic can compete with a healthy diet. Our appearance reflects our health.
Beauty foods that naturally support detoxification: Turmeric, ginger, citrus, leafy greens, apples, beets, chlorella, spirulina, garlic, radishes, spring onion, asparagus, arugula, and dandelion.
Beauty herbs that naturally support detoxification: Dandelion root, milk thistle, licorice root, turmeric, burdock root, and stinging nettle.
Sun Protection from the Inside Out

Did you know certain foods can protect your skin from the inside out? Increasing your consumption of antioxidant-rich foods is an excellent way to ensure you get additional sun protection. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and stimulate collagen production. Certain beauty foods can offer extra protection from UV damage and combat free radical damage.
Eat these foods
Watermelon, blueberries, tomato paste, dark chocolate (minimal sugar, 70% cacao or higher), green tea, and leafy greens.
Try Dry Body Brushing

It's time to slough off those dead skin cells! This natural beauty practice is an excellent way to encourage healthy glowing skin for Spring. You will get a stronger exfoliation than a simple body scrub while supporting your health and beauty. Dry body brushing is an Ayurvedic practice that exfoliates the skin and supports the lymphatic system. You brush your body with a firm bristled brush in the morning before your shower, which helps exfoliate the skin and increase blood flow for a healthy glow.
The beauty benefits of dry brushing: It improves skin tone and texture, improves the appearance of cellulite, exfoliates the skin, and reveals fresh, healthy skin.
The health benefits of dry brushing: It improves circulation, lymphatic functioning, and blood circulation.
